This commissioned piece depicts a column of Imperial Guardsmen marching toward an uncertain battlefront. Inspired by the visual language of 17th–18th century European armies, the regiment advances along a muddy forest road at dawn, passing a roadside shrine where priests perform a final blessing before the coming conflict.

The painting draws heavily from historical military art, Napoleonic and Early Modern campaign imagery, as well as the grim atmosphere of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I wanted to capture a quieter moment of war—not the clash itself, but the solemn journey that precedes it. The soldiers are weary but determined, moving through a landscape that feels both sacred and foreboding.

Compositionally, the scene is framed by twisted trees that guide the eye toward the marching column and the distant valley beyond. The warm light of the rising sun contrasts with the cold, desaturated tones of the forest, reinforcing the feeling of hope standing against inevitable hardship.

For this project, special attention was given to environmental storytelling, historical costume influences, and creating a sense of scale through atmospheric perspective. Rather than focusing on heroics, the artwork aims to portray the ordinary soldiers of the Imperium—the countless men and women whose marches, prayers, and sacrifices sustain humanity's endless wars.
